Mobile diesel power plant: features of installations, types, advantages

A mobile power station is understood as powerful equipment, which consists of several parts – the diesel generator itself, packed in a block container or in the hood, and a transport platform. Due to the possibility of transportation and exceptional characteristics, this equipment is quite widespread. Such a unit has some design features, varieties due to differences, as well as a lot of advantages. It is worth talking about this in more detail.

The main features of application

Mobile diesel generators are universal units, which have found use in various spheres of human economic activity. The main purpose in all cases is to provide sufficient electricity for various needs. Such a source is characterized by autonomy and mobility, which guarantees the use of the unit in different conditions.

Construction and classification

In terms of design a mobile diesel power station may vary, but in general they can be classified into two types: stationary power station, as open design on the frame, and installed in a protective housing or a block-container; portable power station. The diesel generator can be installed on a platform of a truck or tractor chassis, as well as on skis, skids, etc.

In addition to these two types, there are floating and railway power plants. There are also portable generating sets. Some manufacturers offer their customers models on a sled platform, which is excellent for winter. However, such power units have a narrow specialization and are popular only in some areas.

Any mobile diesel power plants for optimal convenience during transportation are equipped with additional devices. The task of these parts (mostly these are fasteners or protective elements) is to ensure maximum safety during the movement of equipment.

Such plants are also classified on the basis of differences in power. According to this indicator, all power plants are divided into three groups:

Mobile power plants with a capacity of up to 10 kW (they are called low-power).
Installations up to 100 kW (have average power indicators).
Installations with power more than 100 kW (high-powered).

All these installations differ not only in power, but also in productivity. Devices, which belong to the first and second group – the most popular models mainly for domestic purposes. Such a mobile diesel power plant can serve as backup equipment for electrification, as well as for the needs of small industries or construction. Stations of large capacity are used for industrial needs or as an emergency power source.

Advantages and disadvantages of portable generator

Mobile power plants have gained the trust of many consumers because they are characterized by a mass of advantages, which consist of the following:

  • Mobility – due to the presence of a wheeled base (tractor or automobile) and a trailed mechanism, it is possible to move the device to the required distance.
  • Compactness (depending on the model and capacity) – the dimensions allow not only to move the stations to specific locations, but also to optimally place or store them.
  • Ease of installation and control – due to the presence of the control unit (remote) with automatic settings and a simple mechanism, the device guarantees the reliability and the ability to restore the power supply. Also these units do not require a large space for permanent storage in contrast to stationary units.
  • There are no stringent requirements for installation (e.g., no need to have a level surface for operation).
  • Can have additional elements – safety nodes (eg, alarms).

Those who have purchased such mobile power plants, appreciated another plus – there is no need to make complex adjustments to start work. The equipment comes to the owner completely ready to work, that is, there is no need to additionally install parts or adjust the mechanisms. If the need arises to replace a separate component, this process will not be difficult – all components are easy to dismantle, and to find a spare part-analog is not difficult.

But there is one disadvantage of such ideal equipment – a rather high price compared to stationary generating sets. Mobile power plants are excellent equipment, but only for professionals who, due to their professional activities, need such a backup power supply station.
